CRUISE PORT DINING GUIDE

Regent Seven Seas Mariner

Icy Strait Point

Icy Strait Point is a fairly new cruise ship destination, allowing only one cruise ship to anchor in its bay each day, and a port that is certainly worth a visit.  It is the "real" Alaska - only 850 population, mostly all Tlingit.  The area is beautiful with whale and Bald eagle watching, and fantastic scenery everywhere.

The Office Bar

From Port: About a quarter mile walk toward the town of Hoonah or have the town's shuttle bus drop you.

A Web site visitor reports that it is now a 2.1 mile walk to The Office Bar due to the construction of a  new dock area. Thanks to Brian of San Antonio.

Must Try: Cold, cracked crab.

Review: A favorite place is The Office Bar, tucked next to the Hoonah Trading Co. grocery, a quarter-mile from the ferry terminal in the Chichagof Island village of Hoonah.

They serve fish and chips, and hamburgers and fries, but their specialty is their very fresh Dungeness crab.  They boil the crab in a big pot as you enter the very casual restaurant.  All food is served on paper plates as you sit at wooden tables overlooking the bay.  Mostly locals eat here, and everyone knows each other.  The food and service are excellent.

Owner Jim Erickson's motto is "Good Times and Friends" and his place certainly reflects this. $$
