Hue

Hue is the near-modern capital of Vietnam from where the thirteen Emperors of the Nguyen dynasty ruled from 1802 to 1945.

The 2 km. square Citadel was built by Emperor Gia Long in 1802-1804 directing a French military architect. With appropriate irony, the French easily captured it in 1885 during their subjugation of Viet Nam.

The picture is of the outer of three walls, 66 feet thick, and the main gate.

Green Hotel Buffet

From Port: Tour bus.

Review: Our tour included a buffet lunch at the Green Hotel and although I wouldn't seek it out, the meal is adequate and photographs well.

Try the Huda (adjectival form of Hue) beer, the local brew.

Dong Ba Market

From Port: Tour bus

Must Try: Street food.

Review: For the truly adventurous, there are a variety of street foods available at the Dong Ba market, Hue's oldest and largest.

These ladies are enjoying what I would call shrimp ceviche.

Just don't drink the water.
