CRUISE PORT DINING GUIDE

Bali

What can one say about Bali? There is so much more here than the beach scene - an amalgam of religion, culture, art and crafts -  unlike any place else in the world.

When you've tired of the beach, hire a car and good guide and enjoy a day seeing the unique Kerta Gosa, the ancient Court of Justice at Semarapura; the Kehen Temple at Bangli; the Neka Gallery which, by the way, is across the street from Naughty Nuri's in Ubud (see below).

Learn about Bali's Hindu Dharma religion, am unusual blend of Buddhism, Hinduism and reverence for one's ancestors.

Balinese cuisine is similar to Javanese and other Indonesian food. A typical meal might include rice, of course, noodles with vegetables, crispy duck, a Balinese specialty, sweet and sour chicken and beef satay.

From Port: The cruise ships tender in at Padang Bai. You'll have to take a taxi, bus or offer to buy your tour guide a drink there.

Just across from the Neka Art Museum on the road leading north of town. Be sure to spend a few hours in the museum - fabulous!

Must Try: Allegedly the best Martinis in Asia.

Review: The featured dish is spare ribs (US$ 6). New Zealand lamb chops (US$ 13.50) are good. Beef is expensive (you're in a Hindu area). Stick with the pork and chicken. It's open air so don't whine about the heat. $
